Review for His Mortal Angel by Jinni James

Who knew one night could change life forever? But, witnessing a creature with glowing red eyes kidnap her best friend, definitely qualifies as life altering to Erika Stanton. The stubborn college student vows to find her roommate even if it kills her.

Zaid, an immortal, is roused in the middle of the night by a human woman's nightmares of the rogue he's been tracking. The stubborn mortal insists on poking her nose where it doesn't belong -the middle of an immortal battle. He has no intention of allowing Erika to die trying to find her college roomie, especially after realizing Erika is his soul mate.

Will he be able to help Erika? Or will he lose the only woman he could ever truly love?

My Take:
4 stars

Would I recommend to others:  yes
Appropriate for 14 and under:  no, recommend 16+
Language and sexual content:  both

This is the first book I've read by Jinni, so I went in without knowing what to expect.  I have to say that I really enjoyed reading this book and it was over before I knew it.  I loved the mystery, the danger, the romance, the humor...it all flowed very well.  I really enjoyed the fact that the plot wasn't predictable and the author didn't have to try to hard to get her story out and make it good and worth reading.  I'll definitely be reading more of Jinni's books in the future.

Love & Skate by Lila Felix

On the rink she’s tough, she’s a leader, she’s fast and she’s the epitome of a rebellious girl. But Nellie’s been hurt, only once, but it was enough to make her look at life through different eyes and off the rink she’s a timid girl who loves with no pretenses.
A long time ago Owen Black was betrayed by the girl he thought he loved and the guy he called his best friend. The anguish set off a domino effect of negativity in his life and he never has fully recovered. He meets Nellie Forrester and thinks he can let it go for her.
But how can you love someone when the wounds from your past are still wide open?

My Take:
5 stars, but would give more if I could

Would I recommend to others:  already have
Appropriate for 14 and under:  yes
Language and sexual content:  very mild on both counts

I just finished this book and...WOW! This book reminded me of my relationship with my husband. Reminded me of the beauty of falling in love, every day, with an amazing man.

This book was beautifully written. Two people meeting and falling in love...but I kept checking the "% read" part because I felt like too many things had gone right and that, with so much of the book left, something was going to happen...or there was sneak peeks at the end. You'll have to read it to find out, now back to my thoughts.

I loved the trials that both Nellie and Owen had to go through, meaning that I loved the people they became afterwards. To watch them grow and overcome them was heartwarming to me. I'll tell you that I cried through pretty much the last 1/4 of the book. This story was that touching to me. If you want a quick, romantic, funny, amazing (I could go on and on with descriptions) book...go grab this one, or another of Lila Felix's books. You'll lose yourself among the pages and enjoy every single moment!

ARC Finding Kia by Airicka Phoenix

“Maybe you should avoid me tonight.”
His arm slipped around my waist and I was drawn into his chest. “If I only have this one night with you, the last thing I’m going to do is stay away.”

Kai Valentines had always accepted the fact that she was a nerd, a nobody. It was a badge she wore with honor, until the day she saved Claudia DeLorenzo’s life and lost herself.
When offered the chance to shed her identity for a single night, Kia never believed it would change her life. It was one night. It meant nothing, or it shouldn't have. But that single night turned out to be her undoing when she finds passion in the arms of the one person she can never have.

Adam Chaves was more than just a gorgeous face, he made her laugh, but more importantly, when he looked at her, she felt like the most beautiful girl on earth. But Adam has no idea that Kia was the girl behind the mask and Kia has no intention of telling him. But a secret could only be kept if no one else knows about it. Claudia knows and she wants something Kia isn't willing to give in order to keep it.

Will Kia succumb? And just how far is Claudia willing to go to get what she wants?

My Take:
5 stars, I'd give 10 if I could!!!

Would I recommend to others:  Yes, though I'd prefer keeping Adam all to myself.  :)
Appropriate for 14 and under:  Yes
Language and sexual content:  little to none

I was given an ARC copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review:

Oh.Em.Gee!!! I just finished this book and I really have no perfect words to describe how I feel right now. Before I start, I just have to say...Why'd it have to end like that??? Okay, I get the whole cliffhanger, lol, but Airicka, be prepared for me to stalk you until I have the 2nd book in my hands!!!

Okay, where to start? I swear to you that Kia is me, or was me, in high school. I felt awkward and out of place, didn't want attention drawn to myself and yet I wasn't as ugly and as awkward as I thought I was. And all it took was the attention of a guy to draw me out. Kia is no different. I absolutely loved her and her inner thoughts. What a sweet girl she was and she was so lost, still is, trying to find who she really is. I loved her sarcastic remarks and her fiery temper. I don't believe there's another book I've enjoyed as much as I did this one, or a main character. I found myself smothering laughs into my pillow (as to not wake the hubby) and unable to put the book down. Seriously, this is the first book I haven't been watching my read progress in and it ended WAY before I was prepared.

Adam is just...perfect. I can't even come up with a descriptive word that works better for him. He's sarcastic, humorous, tender, romantic, sexy and has a temper that isn't scary, but just plain HOT. (If you want to know more about that comment, go read the book!!) I can't even pick a favorite scene with him in it, all of them are yummy!

Congratulations, Airicka, you've outdone yourself yet again. You're gonna have fans falling all over themselves to get to a copy of this book. And once they've read it, I suggest security...LOTS of security, lol...cuz we're all gonna want that book #2 ASAP!!!

“She’s talked about you, but she never warned me just how dangerous you were.”

Somehow, I really doubted he meant in a Charlie’s Angels, sexy in tights kind of way. “I am not

dangerous!”

His brow lifted as his gaze darted to the binder drip drying in the sink. “Could have fooled me.”

This was so not the way I wanted him to remember me, like some clumsy whack job with balance issues.

“Those were accidents.”

“And the restaurant?”

“Accident!” I was sticking to that story if it killed me.

The corner of his lips twitched. “Sure thing, nena.”

“Kia,” I corrected him. “My name—”

“I know,” he said. “I haven’t forgotten.”

Right. “You just called me Nena.” Yeah, I was so not impressed.

He rolled a pink tongue over his teeth. “It means baby in Spanish.”

Baby? He called me baby? Wait, what kind of baby? The hot, seductive sort or the, you need a diaper

change sort?

He laughed. “Do you always think so hard?”

“Yes,” I said automatically. “I think. I’m a thinker.”

“Interesting.”

I frowned. “Why?” Better yet… “How?”

He grinned. “I’m a doer.”

Review: Going Under by Georgia Cates

Jessie Boone is a self proclaimed bad boy and doesn’t march to the beat of anyone’s drum, but his own. Growing up in less than desirable circumstances has made him no stranger to the hard knock life and his determination to leave it behind is fierce. When he finds himself transferred to East Franklin High School, he sees his opportunity to use his athletic ability to snag a college football scholarship, but Forbes Henderson, the player Jessie means to replace isn’t giving up his spot willingly. In fact, Forbes is willing to go to extreme measures to retain his place as first string quarterback. When Forbes’ malicious plan to injure his replacement fails, Jessie is furious and determined to show him he messed with the wrong person; not only is he going to take the position of first string quarterback, he’s going to take his girl, too.

Claire Deveraux is perfection at it’s best. She is beautiful, intelligent and unaware she just became Jessie Boone’s conquest as revenge against her boyfriend, Forbes Henderson. Like her flawless performance as the perfect daughter and student, Claire’s production of being the perfect girlfriend has everyone fooled, except Jessie Boone, and she fears this tattooed bad boy will see her secret desire to explore his crude threats and promises to rock her perfect world. If she decides to give in to one uninhibited moment with Jessie, will she learn too late that it was all an act of vengeance or will Jessie learn the taste of first love is sweeter than that of revenge?

My Take:
4 Stars

Would I recommend to others:  yes
Appropriate for 14 and under:  maybe, life issues would maybe push it to 16+
Language and Sexual Content:  mild on both counts

I've had this sitting on my Kindle for a while and actually started reading it without knowing what it was about. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it was also my first one by Georgia.

I loved the quick wit in this book. Every character was loveable and believable. I love a good book that can suck you into the world that is created for you and it's like your a bystander watching the events go on. That was the case with this book.

I loved Claire and her ability to stand up for herself and what she believed in and wanted out of life. She wasn't afraid of the consequences and took everything head on. I loved that her past wasn't perfect either, that was refreshing to not have the perfect female lead.

Jessie was just plain hot. He comes across as this bad boy, the one that every mother has warned you NOT to get involved with. He's got a hard shell and never lets anyone in, for fear of rejection and being hurt. He has minimal expectations out of life. I enjoyed watching his character grow through the book and become into someone amazing and so sweet.

If you haven't yet read this book or one by Georgia Cates, this is the place to start. Very good read!

Synopsis

Roseanna - Ana - French was happy with her life. Sure she had to move to a strange new town

and live in a creepy new house that had inexplicable cold spots, but she could live with that.

What she couldn’t deal with was the relentless tapping inside the walls at night, the sinister

shadows in the halls or the spirit crawling its way beneath her skin.

Sophie & Carter by Chelsea Fine

** This is a novella **
While other high school seniors are dreaming about their futures, Sophie and Carter are just trying to make it through each day. Carter is overwhelmed by issues at home as he struggles to support his mother. Meanwhile, next door neighbor Sophie is left to care for her three younger siblings in place of their absent and troubled mother. All that holds these two best friends together is each other, and knowing that each night they'll sit together on Sophie's front porch swing and escape from reality, if just for awhile. But as their relationship reaches a turning point and high school graduation nears, will their friendship become something more?

My Take:
5 Stars

Would I recommend to others:  Already have!!
Appropriate for 14 and under:  maybe, mild violence
Sexual content and language:  None

This book was hard for me to get into...not because it wasn't good, but because it opened up a lot in me that I thought was gone.

I love how this story was written, going from Sophie's POV to Carter's. I love that Chelsea gives insight to all her main characters so you can not only read the story, but feel it too. And oh boy, does this book make you feel. If you don't cry at least in some point of this book, you're not human.

Sophie's mother is a hooker and has 4 children. Like most people in that profession, you expect them to be selfish and into their own worlds, not knowing or caring about family, friends or anything else. This is the case in Sophie's position. Still a child, she has to become the mom, the doctor, the caregiver, the dad, the disciplinarian, etc. Her life is just...unfair.

Then there's Carter. His dad is an alcoholic, an abusive one. His mother has taken one too many hits and all of Carter's scars are not on the outside. The things this boy experiences from a very young age would break most people and leave them a pile of skin and bones. He's strong and he has Sophie.

You need to read this book to see what these two struggle with and how they persevere over it all. A very emotional read of support, family and love...even in the midst of heartache.

Excerpt

Kristian was leaning against the wall with his muscular arms crossed at his chest. His

smoky gray eyes watched me intently as I made my way to him, and it made me nervous. I’d

never seen him look at me like that, with such longing and need.

When I approached, he loosened his arms and pulled me straight into them, enveloping

me in his scent of bodywash and cologne; he smelled completely different from Alec, like they

had their own enticing scent. He was wearing the cologne I had given him for his birthday the

year before, and it made me smile as I laid my head on his chest.

“Please don’t go, Marissa. I can take you somewhere and keep you safe. Why does it

have to be him? If anything, it’s more dangerous since whoever is after you is only doing it

because of him.”

In all honesty, he had a point, but I didn’t want to imagine not going with Alec. I held

onto Kristian tighter and breathed him in. I was going to miss him so much.

“I have to go, Kristian,” I whispered. “And I have to go with Alec. I don’t want you or

any of our friends being targets just because of me. If anything happened to any of you I would

never forgive myself.”

Kristian let me go and placed both of his hands on my cheeks, lifting my face up. “I’m

not going to know what to do without you, Mare. You’ve been such a huge part of my life for so

long. Just please promise me that you’ll call me or text if you need anything.”

Smiling, I leaned into his hand and placed mine over the top of his. “Always,” I

whispered wholeheartedly. A lone tear escaped out of the corner of my eye and Kristian wiped it

away with his thumb.

A pained look crossed his face and my heart shattered for him. “Be safe, Marissa.”

“I will,” I said, slowly backing away from him. “But I have to go.”

As soon as I turned to leave, Kristian grabbed my arm and pulled me to him, crushing his

lips against mine. They were firm yet soft, and the desire that flowed through them to me shot

through my body like electricity. Kristian had never kissed me like that before, or ever for that

matter. The kiss only lasted briefly because Alec came up behind me and tore me away from

him, and stepped in front of me.

In a low, menacing voice Alec said, “If I ever see you touch her like that again I’m gonna

rip off your arms and shove them up your ass. Be thankful I can’t do anything about it now, but

when we come back you better watch out.”

Kristian met Alec head on. “I’d like to see you try,” he sneered.

Don't miss out on my review for this book!!

I poured shampoo in my hand and waited for her to turn back around. She did with a little smile, wrapping her arm around my leg. I washed and massaged her head and scalp for so long my own hands were pruny. She moaned with her eyes closed as she rubbed my leg up and down.
"Better?" I asked, moving and rubbing down to her shoulders.
"Yes. Thank you," she groaned. She moved her hand down to my ankle. "You have sexy feet."
I snickered. "Uh…OK."
"I'm serious. You don't believe me?" She smiled, turning a little. "Don't ever wear flip-flops. You'll cause a riot."

Appropriate age: 18+ (my opinion)
Language and sexual content: mild language, a lot of sexual content
Would I recommend to others: YES!

I normally start out with the main character, which in this case is Marissa. I'm gonna save her, but only because I'm gonna go on about another character...her love interest, Alec. This was the perfect guy that EVERY girl and woman will find themselves falling for. He's the tall, fit and gorgeous man...but he's also got a bum deal for a past. He's broken and sad, that this made me want to take care of him. I love how much depth this character had and how everything about him and his situation made him "real".

Marissa's character was also very believeable. She's just the average college girl that wants to have fun, but do well in her studies. She's got her head on straight and already thinks she knows what she wants out of life...until Alex comes along and makes her question it ALL. I do love her relationship with her 2 best friends. It reminded me a lot of my life with my friends growing up...all the way down to Kristian. Sometimes a girl and a guy cannot be "just friends". Oh, and the twist at the end? The who done it? I never guessed! I was completely shocked!

I can't really go into more on the characters and each individual thing I loved about them, without giving too much away. Just know that this book had it all...the lies, the love, the suspense, the romance. I have to say this is my favorite LP Dover book to date!!

ARC Review of Smash Into You by Shelly Crane

Jude has spent the whole twenty one years of his life running. From what, he wasn't quite sure. His mother tried to keep him safe; a low profile, a constant move on the horizon, a week's pay always stashed away. She tried to instill in him that he was special somehow, though would never elaborate. He never felt different. He was so completely normal and vanilla that he wondered if it had all been in her head. But then she was murdered and all he saw was a running silhouette of a man as his mother said three final words to him. Three words that changed his whole being.

Never stop running…

Now he's semi-settled into a big town. The college is huge and easy to blend into. It's been three months since he had to move because 'Biloxi', as he calls the man who killed his mother, found him once more.

Then Marley, an eighteen year old girl who is as infuriating as she is blissfully ignorant of her gorgeousness, smashes into his car with hers. Then smashes into his life as he realizes that whatever it is he has that Biloxi wants, she has it, too. And now, they're after them both.

My Take:
 5 Stars!

Would I recommend this to others:  Yes
Appropriate for 14 and under:  more like 16
Language and sexual content:  mild on both

First off, this book is nothing like what Shelly has written in the past.  Her other books have a touch of paranormal, or just romance, but no suspense like this one.  I loved that I could still tell it was her writing, but it was refreshing to enjoy something very different from her.

The first character you meet is Jude and I have to say that I didn't really like him.  He reminded me a lot of how boys were in high school, egotistical...wanting popularity and moving from one girl to the next.  After I got more background information on him and he was introduced to Marley, my opinion on him changed.  I realized that he had a shell, much like most people get when they go through ordeals that change them.  And so, helpless to his brokenness, I fell in love with Jude.  My absolute favorite moment of him?  At the fire, right before he passes out and the decision he makes.  And I honestly loved how he finds out how it really ends later on.

Marley is also jaded, because of the life she's had to lead.  She's had a lot happen to her in her lifetime and I'm actually a little surprised that she was as resilient as she was.  I really liked her character as she was funny, sarcastic and one tough cookie!  I thoroughly enjoyed the banter between Jude and Marley during this book.  Everything was real and believable that was going on in the plot.  And as always, with Shelly's books, this plot moves along quickly, with lots of turns.  And she adds just enough romance to keep my little heart content.  I'd definitely read this book again and recommend it to others.

**I was given a copy of this book, in return for an honest review.

Review for Betrayals of Spring by L.P. Dover

The smell of rain vastly approaches as we are lying on the ground in a sea of flowers. They surround our bodies while the fresh Spring wind caresses our skin with its soft, gentle touch. Combined as one, we stare into each other’s eyes as we bask in the pleasure of our love and OUR land.

The Land of the Fae has flourished bringing a new beginning and a new court, the Fall Court. Five years have passed since then along with the dreaded day that Meliantha, Summer Court Princess and one of the powerful Four, was betrayed and broken-hearted by the sexy and alluring Winter Prince, Kalen. Spurned by the man she loves, Meliantha has turned and fallen into the arms of the fierce and handsome warrior, Finn, who understands she can never love him, but wants more than anything to mend her broken heart.
The Winter Solstice Ball is approaching, meaning Meliantha will have to face the Winter Prince and make it out of there with her heart intact. But what does she do when Prince Kalen acts as if nothing ever happened and seems more in love with her than ever before?

The dark sorcerer has planned his twisted game of lies and deceit well, and has enjoyed making himself a player without anyone’s knowledge. The game is almost over and the players are exactly where they are needed to be. Will Meliantha figure out his twisted game and save all the players? Or will the dark sorcerer once again obtain the power of the Four and take everything away from her…..even her one true love?

My Take:
4 Stars

Would I recommend to others:  yes
Appropriate for 14 and under:  no, 18+ in my opinion
Language and sexual content:  high on both

I really enjoyed this book, just not quite as much as the first one.  There's something about Ryder and Calista that was more dear to my heart.

I enjoyed some of the twists and turns in this book, but some of it was more predictable now that I know what to expect from the dark sorcerer.

I enjoyed Kalen the most.  I loved his vulnerabiltiy and his charm and sarcasm.  I really hated what was being dished out to him and the princess throughout the story though.  Just when you think thinks are going to calm down and work for them, something happens.  I did enjoy the tasks that the sorcerer set up for the princess to accomplish, but it was sad what she had to go through.

All in all, this was a quick enjoyable read and I'm moving onto the Sorcha and Drake's story next.

My Take:
 4 Stars

Recommend to others:  Yes
Appropriate for 14 and under:  No
Language and sexual content:  much of both

Overall I enjoyed this book.  I have to admit, I felt like the language could have been left out, I felt it more pulled me from the story than contributed to any feelings or scenes.  The sex scenes are easily pointed out and you can skip pass them, if you so desire.

From page one, you're drawn into this beautiful world of Fae.  They are so much like us, but with a few awesome differences.  I'd love to have 1/2 the powers some of them have and all of them are a very beautiful people.  The landscape that is described throughout the book is absolutely breathtaking.  I love that this story flowed pretty evenly and I wasn't left wondering why something was happening or what happened to someone.  This made for a very quick read.

Calista is a very strong, stubborn woman.  She knows what she wants and she doesn't let anyone deter her from it.  She is no different when she sees Ryder for the first time and is powerfully drawn to him, even at the possible expense of her best friend's feelings for her.  My favorite scene with the three of them is after Ryder comes upon her and Merrick training and he jumps to conclusions.  The entire time I was like, "you go girl!"

Merrick is the perfect best friend and guardian.  He's known Cali her entire life and he's loved her.  His sarcastic remarks were the balm to my soul through this entire book.  I knew she needed to love Ryder, but it broke my heart that such a perfect guy, like Merrick, wasn't her destiny.  I love that he finally came to terms with things, but was heartbroken at the timing.

Ryder is the perfect male specimen.  He's gorgeous, got a hot body, funny, determined, and did I mention he was hot?  He wasn't a completely perfect character in that he was very jealous from time to time, but it made the storyline even more interesting.  I loved so many of the things he said to Calista when professing his love,  it'll make your heart sigh.  Anyway, I had 3 books from the series on my Kindle and was so curious about the continued storyline, that I'm gonna continue on to the next book.

AnguiSH by Lila Felix Review

Anguish was the status quo, until she walked in.
Breaker James Collins is confined in a prison of his own making. Scarred doesn’t begin to define his hell since finding out his girlfriend had cheated, stolen, and lied two years ago. It led to a single event—one that would blacken his days and his nights from then on. Since then, he hasn’t left his house, crippled by fear of people and any social interaction.
Ashland talks too much and has the voice of a meth-laden prairie dog, or so she’s always been told. She’s been called annoying and irritating all of her life and gave up on having friends for a long time. College has given her a new lease on a social life and she’s embraced who she is. But now she’s waiting for the one guy who can take her breath away and put up with her antics.
A simple note pinned to a corkboard will lead Ash right to Breaker’s solitary world and she will learn that just because a guy doesn’t fit her ideal, doesn’t mean she won’t fall head over feet in love.

My Take:
4 Stars

Would I recommend to others: yes
Appropriate for 14 and under:  no
Language and sexual content:  small amount of both

This book has sat on my Kindle for a while, being as I normally enjoy reading paranormal more and contemporary not so much.  I kept hearing so much about this book, so I decided to unbury it and read it.

The story drug in a few places for me, hence the reason for the 4 stars.  There were a few times that I thought "why do I need to know this", but it wasn't enough to stop me from reading.  I enjoyed learning about agoraphobia, I have a relative that suffers from it, and it was interesting to me to get inside Breaker's head.  Breaker's character facinated me, the way he was and the way he grew.  I found myself almost rushing through Ashland's dialog to get to his thoughts and inner core.  I could've fallen in love with this boy, he had it all, even with disorder.

Ashland was easy for me to relate to.  I've often been told that I talk too much and end up giving an hour long dialog where only a 5 minute explanation would've sufficed.  I love that she was a flawed character as well, I don't think a perfect woman would've been able to get through to Breaker like Ash did.  I loved how he was constantly complimenting her on parts that she hated about herself.  And his little speech about that?  I almost swoon.  What a hunk.

All in all, I really enjoyed the book and I'd recommend for others to read it.  I liked it enough that I'll read other works from Ms. Felix.

All Ellie Harris wanted was a life of her own.

In a shortsighted decision, she follows her high school boyfriend to college, only to get cheated on and then dumped. And to add insult to injury her overprotective family is suddenly clinging to her again, fighting to control every part of her life.

Bad luck follows her hasty decision and when her roommate steals her identity and leaves town, Ellie is left to clean up a gigantic mess.

Soon sparks are flying between them and the only thing keeping her from falling for him is the debt she still owes and the money she doesn’t have.

At the end either Ellie will have to pay the mistaken debt or bet in the dark that her feelings for Fin will be worth more than the money.

My Take:
Can I give this 10 stars??

Would I recommend to others:  yes and I already have!!
Appropriate for 14 and under:  maybe closer to 16
Language and sexual content:  mild on both counts

I don't even know where to start on this book!!  I will start off by saying, after reading Rachel's last book, I wasn't as excited as I normally am to read her stuff.  Honestly I didn't even read what this book was about before I started reading it, I just went for it.

I love the main character, Ellie.  She reminds me of myself in a lot of ways.  It was fun to witness her relationships with her family and her feeling lost and smothered by them.  I love that she was a little bit of a sarcastic, smart alec and would laugh out loud at some of the comments she'd make.  And then there's her relationship with Fin.  Oh my goodness, she had that boy wrapped around her finger and all by just being her sassy little self.  I absolutely LOVED the interactions between these two.  They reminded me so much of my relationship and banter with my husband, that I found I myself laughing pretty hard and sighing at other points.

This brings me to Fin.  I loved this boy/man.  I think I fell in love with him when he ate Ellie's Burgerwich, lol.  He was fighting the attraction he had for her from the start and it was hilarious to watch him fall under her spell.  He had the humor, the sex appeal, the good looks, the smoldering eyes...I could go on and on!  He was just the all around perfect man, in my eyes.  I think at this point he even won out over Kiran and Jericho. *gasps*

My other favorite character was Ty.  This guy was a big burly teddy bear that I just wanted to peel like an onion and find out all his layers.  I wasn't the least bit shocked when he pulled Ellie inside his office to talk to her.  I loved what he had to say to her, it was perfect.  And I could scream when she didn't listen and allowed her doubts to take over.  Anyway, another happy moment for me was dinner.  I loved the interactions between all members, especially the grandmother.  This part actually brought tears to my eyes, reminding me how much I missed my own sweet grandmas.  If you haven't read any of Rachel's work, this is a good place to start.  Run and grab it, I'm loaning to my husband next...he's gonna love it.  :)
